Karen McDonald, Endorsed by Color Of Change PAC, Wins Democratic Primary For County Prosecutor in Oakland County, Michigan
McDonald’s Victory will make the justice system would make the system fairer and more equitable
NEW YORK, NY — Today, the Color Of Change PAC released the following statement from Arisha Hatch, Executive Director of COC PAC, congratulating Karen McDonald for her primary win for County Prosecutor in Oakland County, Michigan:
“Karen McDonald is committed to changing Oakland County for the better. Her win is a reflection of the great awakening taking place in our country, and a full rejection of the status quo. We congratulate her on this amazing win, and we are excited to support her through the November election.”
Karen McDonald campaigned on policies that would make the system fairer and more equitable in a stark contrast to former incumbent Jessica Cooper. McDonald’s plans include implementing a system of accountability for officers accused of police brutality, ending the use of cash bail, investing in diversion programs and treatment courts that reduce incarceration and creating a unit dedicated to exonerating innocent people who have been wrongfully convicted.
Color Of Change PAC, the political action committee of the nation’s largest online racial justice group endorsed Karen McDonald earlier this year. Over the summer, Color Of Change PAC mobilized and educated our 31,609 members in Oakland County about this race. With the tragedies of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor bringing more visibility to police violence and systemic injustice, Color Of Change PAC’s goal to shift how the public views prosecutors and how prosecutors do their jobs is even more salient. Many of the barriers to racial justice in this country, particularly those who hold power, are more evident now than they have ever been. Prosecutors are mostly white and male, and nearly 85 percent run for DA positions completely unopposed. With this endorsement, and others like it, Color Of Change PAC continues its tradition of endorsing district attorney candidates offering plans that can help move Black people forward.
Color Of Change PAC is a Political Action Committee focused on building independent Black political power, amplifying Black voices, electing candidates who share our values, and holding them accountable to our communities. For more information on Color Of Change PAC, visit votingwhileblack.com.
