Statement from Jamarr Brown, Color Of Change PAC Executive Director, on the First Vice Presidential Debate Between Tim Walz and JD Vance
The Vice Presidential debate has clearly illuminated the vast differences between the Kamala Harris/Tim Walz and Donald Trump/JD Vance visions for America. Governor Tim Walz illustrated how he, alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, will bring in the Opportunity Economy to give all Americans, including Black Americans, a truly fair chance to gain greater economic security in the present and build generational wealth for the future.
We continue to be extremely concerned about the abhorrent lies and misinformation being touted by Senator Vance. From lies about legal Haitian migrants in Ohio, to lies about he and Trump’s own statements in favor of a total abortion ban, Vance has displayed a commitment to avoiding the truth, just like his running mate. Last night, Vance essentially argued in favor of spreading lies and misinformation online, and deflected questions about January 6, refusing to say that Trump lost the 2020 election. That is why we need leaders like Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, who will strengthen democracy and ensure it continues to thrive.

As expected, Donald Trump spouted misinformation, evading real accountability for the harm he has caused to America. He continues to take credit for Biden-era reforms that helped Black families, while trying to paint the Biden/Harris administration as bad for Black people. He says he wants to protect our communities, but we know he wants to give police blanket immunity for anything they do, and was recently endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police. While Trump claims he will reduce crime under his administration, unchecked police power is what actually puts Black communities in danger.
