Color Of Change PAC congratulates Kim Foxx for her re-election as Cook County State’s Attorney

“Foxx’s State’s Attorney win is a testament to the progress she has made fighting injustice in Cook County, the trust the voters have in her ability to continue this progress, and a win for progressive-minded constituents nationwide,” said Rashad Robinson, President of Color Of Change and spokesperson for Color Of Change PAC. “Foxx will be able to build on the successes of her first term and continue pushing imperative criminal justice reforms and smart practices to ensure public safety, thanks to the community that showed up to support her.”

Color Of Change PAC, the political action committee of the nation’s largest online racial justice group, endorsed the incumbent earlier this year. Color Of Change PAC ran a grassroots voter contact program led by local members. Over the past several months, the group has engaged thousands of unique irregular voters by text message, phone calls, direct mail, and canvassing.

Foxx also garnered endorsements from national notables like Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot, as well as music-star John Legend, who joined the PAC in their efforts to back Foxx earlier this year. Foxx is a national leader in the movement to end mass incarceration, who during her tenure, has reduced Cook County’s incarceration rate by nearly 20% and has overturned over 100 wrongful convictions, leading the nation in exonerations of innocent people.

“Foxx’s win is particularly crucial in this challenging moment. The coronavirus epidemic and the disproportionate consequences that it has caused marginalized groups, including incarcerated people, shows why the ideals lifted up by Kim Foxx are necessary right now. By voting to keep Foxx in office, voters have made clear that they want to see humane, sensible criminal justice measures be taken throughout this crisis. We should take this to heart, as we anticipate the dire impact this epidemic, and future ones like it, could have on the criminal justice system,” Robinson added. “The support for her re-election represents a consensus that local constituents approve of progressive criminal justice reforms, and believe Foxx is the right person to see these reforms through.”

The Color Of Change PAC campaign has been centered in Black joy and building long-lasting relationships with Black voters through dozens of online and offline events, including brunches, happy hours, canvasses, and text-a-thons that yielded 27,768 phone calls, 75,609 text messages, and more than 500 doors knocked over the course of several months. They shipped direct mail to 6,873 households in Cook County and ran a get-out-the-vote ad campaign with 33 radio ad spots in support of Foxx that reached more than 350,549 listeners. Their digital ads were seen by 503,551 people on Facebook and YouTube ads saw 1,389,505 impressions. Today, Black voters reminded their elected officials that they will not be denied their voice and are a political force to be reckoned with.

Color Of Change PAC’s endorsement of Foxx continues a nationwide effort to elect progressive District Attorneys. These efforts include the endorsement of Audia Jones for Harris County District Attorney in Texas, as well as the endorsement of LA County District Attorney George Gascón.
