Color Of Change PAC Calls on Walt Disney Company to Cease Ongoing Support of Anti-LGBTQ+ Legislation
The racial justice organization launched a campaign to garner member support against Disney’s controversial bankrolling of elected officials

NATIONWIDE — In response to the recent pass of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” legislation, Color Of Change PAC’s Senior Campaigns Director Jade Magnus Ogunnaike issued the following statement:

“After Governor Desantis signed repressive and targeted legislation against LGBTQ +Floridians, we can undeniably see the devastating impact of corporate negligence on the preservation of equity and justice. The classroom is not a battleground for these politicians’ political agenda and the Walt Disney Company will go down in history as a proponent of injustice unless they reconcile their contributions to the expansion of anti-LGTBQ+ legislation.

Around the country, copycat legislation is being introduced to further attacks on marginalized communities and their place in the classroom. Similar to the Florida bill, Disney has financially supported the elected officials introducing these bills, too. At Color Of Change, we understand an attack and restriction on one marginalized community is a threat to all. Whether it’s anti-LGBTQ+ curriculum restrictions or attacks on Black history under the guise of “critical race theory,” these kinds of policies only support the erasure of anything that deviates from a whitewashed, revised version of our nation’s history.

Disney and any other corporations guilty of jeopardizing equity must immediately rectify their wrongdoings to remain aligned to their commitments to justice. We need to see concrete action from Disney, not more statements. Before LGBTQ+ communities are further impacted in any other state, Disney must take immediate action to put an end to funding bills that block LGBTQ+ and Black history and redirect their abundance of political giving to making our country a more inclusive and equitable place.”
