Harold Fernandez Pryor
For Broward County State AttorneyFor 44 years, current State Attorney Michael Satz has resisted progressive criminal justice reform. He’s charged children as adults in court and pursued the death penalty while giving favorable treatment to police officers who harm our communities. Now, more than ever, Broward County deserves a State Attorney truly committed to justice and equality.
Harold Fernandez Pryor (D) is an experienced attorney who has worked in the private sector and as a former Assistant State Attorney for Broward County. As an assistant state attorney, he handled serious felony cases and gained a deep understanding of the problems that plague our community.
As State Attorney, Harold Fernandez Pryor has pledged to:
- Stop seeking cash bail that criminalizes poor people who cannot afford to pay their way out
- Disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline by providing support services for vulnerable students.
- Eliminate unnecessary prosecutions of low-level, nonviolent offenses.
- Advocate and support people with mental health and substance abuse issues with community‐based mental health and substance use treatment services.
- Establish a dedicated Conviction Integrity Unit to review and overturn wrongful convictions of innocent people in capital offenses and death penalty cases.
After over 4 decades of stalled reforms, it’s time to fix a criminal justice system that’s been fixed against us for far too long. We must elect leaders that are accountable to our communities and understand that we need change now.
