Statement from Jamarr Brown, Color Of Change PAC Executive Director, on the First Vice Presidential Debate Between Tim Walz and JD Vance
Following last night’s vice presidential debate, Color Of Change PAC Executive Director Jamarr Brown released the following statement:
The Vice Presidential debate has clearly illuminated the vast differences between the Kamala Harris/Tim Walz and Donald Trump/JD Vance visions for America. Governor Tim Walz illustrated how he, alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, will bring in the Opportunity Economy to give all Americans, including Black Americans, a truly fair chance to gain greater economic security in the present and build generational wealth for the future.
We continue to be extremely concerned about the abhorrent lies and misinformation being touted by Senator Vance. From lies about legal Haitian migrants in Ohio, to lies about he and Trump’s own statements in favor of a total abortion ban, Vance has displayed a commitment to avoiding the truth, just like his running mate. Last night, Vance essentially argued in favor of spreading lies and misinformation online, and deflected questions about January 6, refusing to say that Trump lost the 2020 election. That is why we need leaders like Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, who will strengthen democracy and ensure it continues to thrive.
Governor Walz reinforced he and Vice President Harris’ commitment to serving all people, not just the rich, the white, and the well-connected. Vance, on the other hand, did nothing but parrot the same tired playbook of former president Trump, claiming to support policies that will help Black people but in actuality supporting policies like repealing the Affordable Care Act and expanding corporate tax cuts that will cause extreme harm. It’s clear that the Trump/Vance ticket has no interest in or ability to prioritize racial justice and equity for all. Make no mistake – despite attempting to distance themselves from it, Vance and Trump will certainly uphold the white supremacist manifesto that is Project 2025.
Black people deserve to have their political power and constitutional rights protected. One of the most important ways we can make sure that happens is by electing candidates who center racial equity and justice. With Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, we have an opportunity to elect partners we can work with to uplift racial justice and win the progress we deserve.
