COLOR OF CHANGE PAC RESPONDS TO PRESIDENT BIDEN NOT SEEKING REELECTION

NATIONAL – Today, President Joe Biden announced his decision to step down in his re-election bid for President of the United States. Rashad Robinson, spokesperson for Color Of Change PAC, issued the following statement:

“First and foremost, I’d like to express my gratitude to President Joe Biden for his immense service as America’s 46th President. Under his and Vice President Kamala Harris’ leadership, the administration forgave student loan debt for more than 40 million borrowers, nominated and secured the historic confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and established a temporary Child Tax Credit (CTC) expansion that helped reduce child poverty to a record low of 5.2% in 2021. From top to bottom, the Biden Administration has worked tirelessly for the American public through democratic ideals.

“But even more importantly, these accomplishments, and many more, were made possible because of President Biden’s willingness to recognize and rectify how much discrimination holds our entire country back and how much equity powers it forward.

“But let us also be clear: Vice President Kamala Harris is the right person to lead our country forward, and perhaps even more important, to take on Donald Trump. Her commitment to equity and rectifying discrimination has been central to her ethos since her position as Attorney General of California. In that elected position, she was instrumental in passage of the California Homeowner Bill of Rights in 2012,, which protected homeowners from foreclosure abuses and provided key legal protections for borrowers. As a member of the U.S. Senate, her co-sponorship of the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act of 2018, which passed unanimously, made lynching a federal hate crime. Her introduction of the Maternal CARE Act in 2018, addressed the high rate of maternal mortality among Black women in the United States by providing training programs for medical and nursing schools to combat implicit bias among health care providers, creating comprehensive maternity care for women in underserved communities and prioritizing the collection of data to better understand disparities in medical health outcomes. And, of course, she was actively involved in COVID-19 pandemic relief, advocating for a $1.9 trillion dollar economic stimulus package that supported businesses, funded vaccine distribution and more.

The threats we have ahead of us are formidable. The far right and neo-segregationists are threatening to dismantle entities like the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Justice, to limit our civil liberties as they have already done with affirmative action and abortion rights and to set us back further than before. They are absolutely targeting the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits racial discrimination, and setting the groundwork for widespread discrimination through Project 2025. We cannot let that happen. They are absolutely targeting the Civil Rights Act of 1964 next, which prohibits racial discrimination, and we cannot let that happen, and setting the groundwork for widespread discrimination through Project 2025. We need a president who can go toe-to-toe with these challenges and stand their ground without blinking an eye. Out of all of the contenders for POTUS being thrown around, Vice President Kamala Harris fits the bill in every single category.

“Black voters will not stand aside and allow progress to be eroded by extremist Republicans who seek to destroy our democracy as we know it and eradicate our protections in this country. By empowering a candidate we believe in, we progress together as a country. In a new poll, almost two-thirds of American voters voiced their support for a new candidate, one that will listen to them. Vice President Kamala Harris will continue the fight for justice, and we must stand with her in this moment. Color Of Change PAC believes her leadership is what it will take to unite the country, protect our liberties and restore faith in our democracy.”
