Color Of Change PAC Endorses Satana Deberry for Reelection as Durham County District Attorney
Color Of Change PAC is proud to endorse Satana Deberry as District Attorney for Durham, NC for a second time. Satana Deberry is committed to increasing diversion programs for children and adults, ending the reliance on cash bail, evaluating past cases, and addressing prosecutorial misconduct.

DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA Color Of Change PAC, the political action committee of the nation’s largest online racial justice group, endorsed Democrat Satana Deberry for re-election as Durham County District Attorney. Ahead of key district attorney races across the country, Color Of Change PAC will announce additional endorsements over the next several months.

“Color Of Change PAC is committed to ending criminal justice policies that harm Black people, and that’s a sentiment that has driven Satana Deberry’s work as District Attorney. Since her election in 2018, Deberry has been a leading advocate for criminal justice reform, delivering robust changes to Durham County’s legal system by reducing reliance on cash bail and cutting the population of the county’s detention facility in half,” said Arisha Hatch, Executive Director of Color Of Change PAC. “Deberry’s unwavering commitment to reform that centers the well-being of Black communities is why Color Of Change PAC is proud to endorse her for re-election.”

Throughout her term, Deberry has prioritized community safety while championing justice reform policies and restoring trust in the DA office. From clearing the misdemeanor convictions of nearly 400 people, to implementing a pretrial release policy and increasing restorative justice practices, Deberry’s progress speaks for itself.

Since 2016, Color Of Change PAC has mobilized hundreds of thousands of Black voters across the country, endorsing candidates who support crucial reform policies that work to transform the justice system. The PAC’s endorsement of Satana Deberry coincides with its endorsement of Damon Chetson for Wake County District Attorney, who is committed to holding police accountable for misconduct, and ending cash bail.

Color Of Change PAC plans to support these candidates by building enthusiasm and mobilizing voters who are often left out during District Attorney races. The organization leads an education campaign that informs voters about the link between criminal justice reform and voting, and provides resources for people to get involved in their local District Attorney race. One of the first-ever political organizing groups to figure out how to reach and engage Black voters and its members online, Color Of Change PAC has ramped up its digital tactics, including hosting virtual events like Black Joy Socials, text and phone banking, virtual squad meetings and PPE drop offs in response to the limitations COVID-19 has put on in-person advocacy and voter engagement. The organization also plans to send direct mail, launch GOTV email and SMS broadcasts, and deploy digital ads to reach and mobilize voters for the upcoming District Attorney races in North Carolina.
