Color Of Change PAC Endorses Karen McDonald in Oakland County Prosecutor Race
New York, NY — Today, Color Of Change PAC announced it is endorsing Karen McDonald for Oakland County Prosecutor. McDonald has campaigned on policies that would make the system fairer and more equitable in a stark contrast to the incumbent Jessica Cooper. McDonald’s plans include implementing a system of accountability for officers accused of police brutality, ending the use of cash bail, investing in diversion programs and treatment courts that reduce incarceration and creating a unit dedicated to exonerating innocent people who have been wrongfully convicted.
“Prosecutors hold immense power in our local justice systems, deciding who gets charged, whether police are held accountable for harming and killing people, whether cash bail keeps poor people locked up, and so much more. We need strong leaders committed to racial and social justice to hold this responsibility,” said Jennifer Edwards, Communications Director for Color Of Change PAC. “Unlike her opponent who has led a racist, wealth-based criminal justice system for the last 12 years, Karen McDonald acknowledges the many ways our justice system harms Black communities and is committed to implementing real solutions to hold police accountable and make our communities safer.”
McDonald’s endorsement follows recent endorsements Color Of Change PAC has made to help make the case for progressive candidates to voters, including Kim Gardner in St. Louis City, Missouri, for City Circuit Attorney; Victoria Burton-Harris in Wayne County, Michigan, for Prosecuting Attorney; and Monique Worrell in Orange & Osceola Counties, Florida and Joe Kimok in Broward County, Florida, for State Attorneys.
Color Of Change PAC draws the link between voter turnout in district attorney races and real change in Black communities. The PAC seeks to endorse candidates that support the criminal justice demands which will bring about essential reforms; these include ending money bail, reducing collateral consequences for immigrant defendants, protecting kids within the juvenile justice system, holding police accountable, and being more transparent with the public.
