Color Of Change PAC Endorses Damon Chetson for Wake County District Attorney
Color Of Change PAC is proud to endorse Damon Chetson for District Attorney in Wake County, NC. Damon Chetson supports diversion programs that keep people out of jail, holding police accountable for misconduct, and ending cash bail.

WAKE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA Color Of Change PAC, the political action committee of the nation’s largest online racial justice group, endorsed Damon Chetson for Wake County District Attorney.

“Wake County deserves a District Attorney who will be a tireless advocate in the fight for a fair and equitable justice system, and that is why Color Of Change PAC is proud to endorse Damon Chetson,” said Arisha Hatch, Executive Director of Color Of Change PAC. “Current DA Lorrin Freeman has made it clear that her priority is maintaining the status quo rather than reforming the criminal legal system that, in North Carolina, disproportionately incarcerates Black communities. Chetson’s long standing career practicing criminal defense law and commitment to criticial issues such as abolishing the death penalty and ending ‘pay-to-play’ schemes make him the best candidate for District Attorney.”

Chetson’s platform includes taking an evidence-based approach to justice, expanding diversion programs, and dismissing low-level marijuana charges. If elected as DA, Chetson will bring the expertise, change, and reform that Black communities in Wake County deserve.

Since 2016, Color Of Change PAC has mobilized hundreds of thousands of Black voters across the country, endorsing candidates who support crucial reform policies that work to transform the justice system. The PAC’s endorsement of Damon Chetson coincides with its endorsement of Satana Deberry for Durham County District Attorney, which was also announced today. Both of these candidates are committed to making important changes that will make North Carolina safer for Black people, who have been targeted and abused by the current criminal justice system.

Color Of Change PAC plans to support these candidates by building enthusiasm and mobilizing voters who are often left out during District Attorney races. The organization leads an education campaign that informs voters about the link between criminal justice reform and voting, and provides resources for people to get involved in their local District Attorney race. One of the first-ever political organizing groups to figure out how to reach and engage Black voters and its members online, Color Of Change PAC has ramped up its digital tactics, including hosting virtual events like Black Joy Socials, text and phone banking, virtual squad meetings and PPE drop offs in response to the limitations COVID-19 has put on in-person advocacy and voter engagement. The organization also plans to send direct mail, launch GOTV email and SMS broadcasts, and deploy digital ads to reach and mobilize voters for the upcoming District Attorney races in North Carolina.
