Color Of Change PAC Endorses Audia Jones for Harris County District Attorney
National racial justice group announces support of Jones’ reform campaign
Today, Color Of Change PAC, the political action committee of the nation’s largest online racial justice group, announced their endorsement of Audia Jones for Harris County District Attorney. The Democratic primary election is scheduled for March 3.
“Audia Jones is the only candidate with the passion and demonstrated commitment to implement meaningful criminal justice reform in Harris County,” Arisha Hatch, Director of Color Of Change PAC said. “As a dedicated public servant, Audia Jones understands the enormous impact DAs can have on Black communities and the responsibility each DA has to get it right. Harris County deserves a DA who is committed to driving reform and limiting the role of racism in the justice system; Audia Jones will be that DA.”
“For too long, the residents of Harris County have held to the false promises of DA Kim Ogg. For all her talk of reforming the justice system, DA Ogg has rejected attempts to promote fairness in the courtroom, attempting to add dozens of new prosecutors to her staff and standing up against historic and necessary bail reform. It’s clear that she is far more interested in maintaining the status quo than protecting Texas communities – particularly communities of color – and it’s time for a DA that will make good on their promises and deliver true reform.”
Audia Jones is running on a platform of pushing reform and restoring trust in our justice system. Audia is the reformer that Houston urgently needs. If elected, Jones has pledged to reduce mass incarceration by expanding diversion programs; increase accountability; advocate for resources to support crime survivors; and establish advisory boards aimed at rebuilding community relationships with the DA’s office.
Color Of Change PAC’s endorsement of Audia Jones coincides with its endorsement of George Gascón for Los Angeles County District Attorney, which was also announced today. It also comes one week after the PAC joined with musician and activist John Legend to endorse the reelection of Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx in Illinois.
