Ahead of GA Senate Runoffs, Color Of Change PAC Leans on Relational Organizing Tactics to Mobilize Black Voters and Build Black Political Power Across the South

The PAC Will Ramp Up Investments in Georgia Senate Runoffs in Support of Warnock and Ossoff

New York, NY – Color Of Change PAC, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, will kick off a multi-million dollar GOTV campaign to mobilize Black voters ahead of Georgia’s highly anticipated Senate runoff races in January. For years, the PAC has worked alongside local grassroots groups to bolster voter networks, engage Black communities and build deep, authentic relationships. The PAC hopes that strong relational organizing efforts in tandem with this new investment will culminate in victories for PAC-endorsed challengers Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff and build Black political power in Georgia, as well across the South.

“It is clear that Black participation won Biden the presidency. Now, we must look down the ballot to continue the fight, as this runoff race presents the opportunity to provide the impending administration with the Congressional support needed to push policies that empower Black communities,” said Rashad Robinson, spokesperson for Color Of Change PAC. “This investment signifies what’s at stake in this election. The success of the Biden administration, and thus, the livelihoods of Black communities nationwide lies in the hands of Georgia voters, and we are confident they will come out and make sure their voices are heard.”

The organization has launched a massive voter mobilization effort in the state to reach Black voters and encourage participation. The PAC will hold “Black Joy” events to help Black communities get out the vote while staying safe during the pandemic. These include remote Black joy voter contact events and an in-person series consisting of “Black Joy Motercades”, the “Black Joy Drive-In Series”, and Black Joy PPE distribution events. Over the past year, Color Of Change PAC has explored ways to ensure that events are safe and follow social distancing requirements while remaining, with food, music, and celebrity guests. Color Of Change PAC will also host a number of text-a-thons and phone banking parties in the coming weeks that allow people to participate in the democratic process in new and exciting ways. The investment will also support digital ads, mailers, email and SMS communication, and peer-to-peer messaging and calls.

Earlier this year, Color Of Change PAC endorsed Warnock and Ossoff as the right choices to lead Georgia out of the impending health and economic challenges of the pandemic, and into an era of strong leadership in the face of this crisis.

As Senator, Rev. Rafael Warnock has promised to fight for a better Georgia, including efforts to:

  • Protect and expand the right to access affordable, quality healthcare by building upon the Affordable Care Act, defending protections for pre-existing conditions and reproductive healthcare; and lowering the costs of prescription drugs.
  • Ensure every vote counts by expanding voting options, restoring and strengthening voting protections, and advocating for resources to protect the security of elections.

  • Making strides to end mass incarceration and give everyone a second chance by reforming the bail system, increasing police accountability, ending the use of private prisons, and advocating for resources to support returning citizens.

  • Rebuilding our economy by supporting pay equity, funding unemployment, and supporting small businesses.

  • Pushing to ban discriminatory federal practices that exclude people from housing, financial, and employment.

As Senator, Jon Ossoff has vowed to advocate for crucial reforms, which includes:

  • Major criminal justice reform, by championing a New Civil Rights Act and working to reverse the militarization of local police forces, and enhance due process and human rights protections for all citizens.

  • Great health care for every American with a strong public option and strengthened the Affordable Care Act. He will also defend Medicare and Social Security.

  • Historic investment in clean energy and infrastructure.

  • Lower taxes for working families and small businesses.

  • The privacy of women’s health care and the right to choose.

“During this historic runoff election cycle that may see similar rates of increased voter turnout as Nov. 3rd, state leaders must ensure Georgia’s voting systems maintain their integrity,” said Robinson. ”Color Of Change PAC is calling on state election officials to ensure that voters can cast a ballot in a safe environment free of arbitrary barriers and intimidation.”

Color Of Change PAC designs campaigns with the intention of ending practices that unfairly hold Black people back while championing solutions that move us all forward. This election cycle, Color Of Change PAC helped garner record Black voter turnout, making 6.65 million direct voter contacts in key races across the county, including 400,933 texts sent, 10,055 phone calls made, 163, 559,082 emails shared and over 25,000 volunteers mobilized for activations like the PAC’s Black Joy events. Black Joy events are part of a larger movement to support candidates who understand and respect principles of freedom and justice, regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic status. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc across America, the PAC’s Black Joy series seeks to build community, create safe and healthy spaces for Black people to engage in advocacy, and build resilience.
