Ahead of 2024 Elections, Color Of Change PAC Announces Endorsements in Ohio
Through our commitment to elect progressive candidates who will support Black communities, Color Of Change PAC endorses Shayla Favor and Michael O’Malley
OHIO — Color Of Change PAC, the political action committee of the nation’s largest online racial justice group, announced its endorsement of Shayla Favor for Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney and Michael O’Malley for Cuyahoga County Prosecuting Attorney. Between now and Election Day, Color Of Change PAC will mobilize Georgia’s Black voters to elect these reform-minded candidates focused on building racial equity for Black communities. Color Of Change PAC is also endorsing candidates in Texas, California, Florida and Georgia.
“Color Of Change PAC is proud to endorse candidates who understand that engaging Black voters and fighting for racial justice isn’t just a one-off action on the campaign trail. Shayla Favor and Michael O’Malley are working to build racial equity, and we will mobilize Black voters to support them,” said Color Of Change PAC Executive Director Jamarr Brown. “This cycle, the preservation of our democracy and the economic advancement of Black and other historically marginalized communities are top of mind. Both of those issues are impacted by the justice system. Prosecutors are the most powerful single actors in the criminal justice system, and support of reform-minded prosecutors is an investment in racial equity that touches many aspects of our lives.”
Since 2016, Color Of Change PAC has engaged hundreds of thousands of Black voters across the country, endorsing candidates who offer plans to help move Black people forward.
Favor has demonstrated her commitment to creating safe, accessible, and affordable communities for everyone, as a line prosecutor and as a city council member. Her platform for Franklin County Prosecutor is to hold violent offenders of the law accountable, minimize court involvement and unnecessary incarceration for low level offenses, reduce reoffending, and direct those in need of treatment to available resources. She would be the first Black woman to hold this office in the state.
O’Malley has worked to keep people out of the criminal justice system through early intervention and diversion centers, and he is committed to ensuring that individuals with behavioral health concerns receive proper treatment. treatment outside of the criminal justice process and within the behavioral health system. Additionally, he was the first County Prosecutor in Ohio to adopt a fatal use of deadly force policy.
With renewed energy and excitement around the 2024 election, Color of Change PAC will support its endorsed candidates with voter engagement and mobilization, communicating the importance of both local and national elections to Black voters and conveying that voting for candidates focused on racial equity at the local level will empower candidates at the top of the ticket. Color Of Change PAC is one of the first political organizing groups to perfect the ability to reach and engage Black voters through actions like text and phone banking, virtual squad meetings and more. Color Of Change PAC will also utilize direct mail, digital ads, and email and SMS broadcasts.
