Color Of Change PAC Announces Five Minnesota Endorsements

Reform-minded candidates receive boost from PAC of nation’s largest online racial justice organization

MINNESOTA (July 30, 2018) — Color Of Change PAC, the political action committee of the nation’s largest online racial justice group, today announced five endorsements for progressive candidates who are dedicated to making life better for all Minnesotans. Color Of Change PAC has endorsed candidates all across the nation who seek to make real lasting change for communities of color.

“Today, Color Of Change PAC is pleased to endorse five outstanding candidates seeking elected office who have the experience and bold vision to improve the lives of Minnesotans and create a justice society that works to the benefit of all people,” said Color Of Change PAC spokesperson Rashad Robinson. “We stand with these candidates because Minnesota deserves reformed-minded leaders who aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo and who will work tirelessly to create economic opportunity, ensure our neighborhoods are safe, improve schools, fight for affordable healthcare, hold law enforcement accountable, reform the criminal justice system, and more.

Color Of Change PAC endorses the following:

  • Erin Murphy, Candidate for Governor
  • Erin Maye-Quade, Candidate for Lieutenant Governor
  • Keith Ellison, Candidate for Attorney General
  • Ilhan Omar, Candidate for U.S. Representative of CD5
  • Mark Haase, Candidate for County Attorney of Hennepin County

Murphy, Maye-Quad, Omar and Hasse have also been endorsed by the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party.

Erin Murphy, Candidate for Governor

Erin Murphy is the former Majority Leader of the Minnesota House of Representatives. She is a registered nurse and the former Executive Director of the Minnesota Nurses Association. She supports the release of non-violent offenders and working to reform Minnesota’s criminal justice system.

Erin Maye-Quade, Candidate for Lieutenant Governor

Erin Maye-Quade is a representative for Minnesota district 57A. She is the first openly LGBTQ person to be included on the ticket of a major Minnesota political party.

Keith Ellison, Candidate for Attorney General

Keith Ellison has served a U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district since 2007. Ellison was the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress. He has served as the Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee since 2017. He supports ending money bail as well as reducing incarceration, probation and parole rates, and supports efforts to help people reintegrate into their communities.

Ilhan Omar, Candidate for U.S. Representative of CD5

Ilhan Omar was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2016. She was the first Somali-American Muslim legislator elected to office in the U.S. She supports banning private prisons as well as investing in existing alternatives to incarceration and piloting new alternatives.

Mark Haase, Candidate for County Attorney of Hennepin County

Mark Haase is a Coast Guard veteran, former family lawyer, and former lobbyist for the state’s Council on Crime and Justice. He co-founded the Second Chance Coalition which worked on drug sentencing reform and the “Ban the Box” movement. He supports ending money bail, decriminalizing marijuana and creating an independent advisory panel for police use of force cases.

Color Of Change PAC was established to support candidates (and policies) at local and national levels in order to transform the criminal justice system in favor of real justice for all people, particularly those of color. Since its launch, the PAC has mobilized over 5,000 volunteers, contacted and engaged millions of voters, and helped to elect candidates accountable to the Black community. By supporting prosecuting attorney candidates across the nation, the PAC will continue to throw its considerable support behind candidates that understand and respect principles of freedom and justice, regardless of race, gender or socioeconomic status.
